Practical Info

‘Music is your own experience, your thoughts, your wisdom. If you don’t live it, it won’t come out of your horn.’
Charlie Parker

Where: Lessons take place at my house in Cheltenham. I live at the town end of Prestbury Road, near Pittville park and the Holst Museum.

Who: I teach adults only.

When: Lessons are available between 2pm and 9pm from Mondays to Wednesdays. Please contact me to find out if a time is available to suit you.

How much:
Lessons are for 45 minutes and cost £22. Payment to be made at the start or end of each lesson.

How many: Lessons can be weekly or fortnightly. Students are asked to commit to 33 lessons a year (if weekly), or 18 (if fortnightly). These can be flexibly arranged over the year to accommodate absences for holidays etc. Payment must be made for lessons cancelled the day before, or on the day itself.

Want to try it and see? I recommend that students try some lessons during other students’ cancellations, before deciding to commit. I have a small, very basic, electric keyboard that students can borrow if they’d like to try some lessons before purchasing an instrument of their own.

What about practice time? There’s no getting round it: more practice means more progress! My general advice is to establish a routine, and if you’re stuck for time practise little and often rather than once a week for an hour. Playing little and often means that you’ll progress faster and enjoy the process more. In my experience, progress can be made practising for as little as fifteen minutes a day, five days a week. Any less and it’s possible you’re wasting your time and money. Any more and there’ll be no stopping you!
